San Diego Gun Ranges and Fun Alternatives
Gun owners need a place to practice shooting, which can sometimes be more difficult to find than you’d expect (especially in recent times!)
The gun range near you could be closed at the time you want to go shoot. Maybe it’s open and you show up only to find all the lanes are full and the wait time is outrageously long!
This would not be good, but hopefully we can offer a solution that suits you.
The Gun Range San Diego
First, let’s talk about your best options for gun ranges.
The Gun Range San Diego is a top-of-the-line gun range with a fun, welcoming environment. Having been newly constructed in 2015, they have state-of-the-art range equipment and an ultra clean facility.
More importantly, the staff not only knows their stuff but are always friendly and focused on customer service.
They also offer just about anything you’d want from a gun range. That includes courses for beginner, intermediate, and advanced shooters, a fully stocked gun store, on-site gunsmithing, rentals, 11 different types of targets, hearing and eye protection, and more. Plus, they are conveniently located in central San Diego on Balboa Ave, just on the other side of Convoy St from Axe Thro Co.
The price to shoot at The Gun Range San Diego is $14 per hour for the first shooter on a lane, and $12 per hour for each additional shooter, with a maximum of 3 per lane.
Other gun ranges
Another option is Discount Gun Mart which has 2 locations: one near Mission Bay and the other in Santee. They offer lanes up to 25 yards, as well as classes and personalized instruction.
If you live closer to Power you could give PWG Range a try. PWG Range is the third largest indoor gun range in America, and caters to both experienced shooters and first-timers. They offer 14 different classes with options for beginner, intermediate, and advanced shooters.
If you want to get some shooting practice with a bow instead of a gun, you can also visit one of the archery ranges in San Diego.
The San Diego Archers maintain 2 ranges in Balboa Park. The fee is just $2 per archer which is paid to a collection box based on the honor system. The Morley Field Range is perfect for tournament practice. They also have a fun walking range set up in the canyon, called Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Range.
Some other options are the Lake Poway Archery Range, or you can sign up for a class at Performance Archery in Miramar.
We have certainly noticed a lot of overlap between shooting enthusiasts and axe throwing enthusiasts. If you’re looking for an alternative to the shooting range, then you’ll definitely want to check out an axe throwing venue.
When you throw at Axe Thro Co, a coach will be with every step of the way. We’ll teach you the axe throwing basics, help you consistently stick your axe in the target, and show you a variety of fun axe throwing games.
